The myth has always been that one’s eyesight degrades if he does not put on eye glasses regularly. In the recent times, many scientists including optometric physicians and other experts related to this field have challenged the myth, saying the degradation of eyesight is totally ‘hereditary’. They claim that no matter how much you watch TV, read books or whatever ‘harms’ your eyes has nothing to do with eyesight, as it was in the genes of one—how capable his eyes are! The counter claim has stirred a worldwide debate over the matter.
The experts, who back the trend, say that if one ignores putting on eyeglasses even though he is prescribed, he may lose his eyesight gradually. According to them, the function of an eyeglass is to make the light fall at the right place of your retina. This gives you clearer vision. But if you do not religiously put on them, the eyes have to suffer more strain and pain. They cite problems such as severe headaches as the adverse effect of not putting on the glasses.
The aforementioned claim is somehow true but bit exaggerated. Yes, eyes have to suffer more strain and even pain if they aren’t able to catch the light and convert into image properly. But it does not mean wearing glasses will damage your vision and degrade it. Many people who have been putting on glasses since their childhood have backed the notion. Another important fact is that the eyes develop or degrade on their eye irrespective of eyeglasses. Yes if you don’t put them, they will degrade bit quicker.
To put in, wearing eyeglasses do not damage your vision. So put on them without any tension. If you don’t like typical geek-like look, order some stylish prescription glasses.
